Sustainability
Recognising that all digital platforms leave an environmental impact, at Betpack, we are focused on minimising our carbon footprint for a more eco-friendly future. Even though we do not operate physical venues, we are aware that all types of operations affect the environment, particularly when they involve the collection and storage of vast amounts of information, as is the case with websites. We aim to lower our carbon footprint and align with the best environmental practices.
Our Environmental Goals
Websites rely on data centres, physical servers, and power-hungry digital infrastructures, all of which consume vast amounts of energy, with estimates comparing the energy consumption of the internet to that of the entire airline industry. As an environmentally responsible digital platform, we are dedicated to minimising the impact of website hosting, site interactions, and content delivery, of course, without compromising the quality of the user experience. We achieve this by implementing carbon footprint-management initiatives, adopting strategic approaches, and leveraging technological advancements. The positive results encourage us to continue pursuing these goals even more vigorously in the future.
Betpack is Cleaner than Most Websites Globally
Our efforts to run an environmentally-friendly website while providing users with a top-notch experience have resulted in a high score from WebsiteCarbon.com, better than most other digital platforms. Our score of A+ is better than 94% of all pages globally and significantly higher than the F+ global average. Some key takeaways from the survey include:
- Only 0.07g of CO2 is produced when a user visits Betpack.
- The website runs on sustainable energy.
- 10 Betpack page views are equal to boiling water for only 1 cup of tea or two phone charges.
- A single tree can absorb the amount of carbon produced by Betpack in a year.
- 100 page visits are equal to the electricity spent by an electric car driving for only 1km.
Betpack’s Sustainability Strategy
Our ambitious goal to lower carbon emissions even more than the impressive A+ score necessitates a sustainability strategy focused on several key factors. These include the use of green energy, engaging in responsible collaborations, and harnessing technological advancements and innovative solutions to prevent unnecessary energy use.
Energy-Efficient Approach Focused on Green Alternatives and Partnerships
Betpack works with hosting providers that share our dedication to sustainable operations and are powered by renewable energy sources. Our servers are energy efficient, essential for maintaining carbon-neutral operations and minimising energy consumption.
Optimising Website Performance through Technological Advancements
As you might have noticed, Betpack’s priority is to provide visitors with a top-tier user experience. However, you might not know that we have achieved that while taking a range of steps to minimise our environmental footprint. We have achieved this by incorporating innovative technologies and sustainable mechanisms into our daily operations that save energy but also facilitate the fast exploration of our website. And we don't stop there. We continue to look for new ways to minimise the environmental impact and improve your user experience.
Data Compression
One of the most significant factors contributing towards elevated carbon emissions is the size of the files stored in data centres. To that end, we implement comprehensive measures to lower file sizes by compressing them to the lowest possible values without compromising the user experience. In doing so, we manage to significantly decrease the energy needed to transfer and load these files, be they texts, scripts, or images. At the same time, by reducing file sizes, we make the website more responsive and easier to navigate, resulting in a smoother browsing experience.
Intelligent Browser Caching
Instead of relying on energy-consuming methods to store data, we utilise smart caching techniques that allow us to save frequently required elements on users’ devices so that regular Betpack visitors don't need to download them repeatedly. Keeping these in the user’s browser cache lowers energy consumption and results in reduced carbon emissions.
Adaptive Systems
We rely on so-called “lazy-loading” technologies, a relatively new implementation where, essentially, the website is only downloaded as needed. In other words, as the reader goes through the text content, images, and videos, these website elements are only downloaded when visible on the user’s screen. This allows us to provide visitors with full website functionalities while keeping pages as light and fast to load as possible. Needless to say, this has a significant impact on minimising unnecessary energy use.
Image Compression
Unnecessary energy consumption is synonymous with high-resolution images and high-definition videos. They take the bulk of server capacity and spend vast amounts of energy. However, at Betpack, we have a solution for this problem and use advanced tools to lower the sizes of videos and images without negatively affecting their quality. Our coding and design teams are well-versed in optimising content and compressing files, providing Betpack readers with a high-quality, and yet eco-friendly browsing experience.
