With EURO 2020 at the semi-final stage and the Premier League pre-season havingd yesterday, we should see more signings happening at regular intervals as the transfer window moves into overdrive. Chelsea supporters, though, are on edge.
Their immediate rivals for those Champions League spots have all dipped into the market already, but Thomas Tuchel seems to be keeping his powder dry at this stage. It has now been reported by the Mirror that the shortlist has been prepared. The budget at his disposal will be substantial, with the Champions League trophy safely tucked in the cabinet.
Transfer machine into overdrive
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, their efforts in the transfer market are about to be ramped up. Roman Abramovich and Thomas Tuchel are preparing offers for players such as Erling Haaland and Declan Rice as Tuchel hasntified the midfield and the striking department as needing further upgrades from the players that currently play in those positions.
Although Chelsea has thus far failed to make a signing during the current transfer window, they remain in a far better position than most of the teams in the Premier League as their squad is currently stronger than most. However, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been stepping up their preparations for pre-season with acquisitions, and this has been making the Blues supporters a tad restless.
Midfielder and Striker
Thomas Tuchel is eager to acquire a striker, and a number of players have been connected with the position as Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham look set to leave Chelsea and maybe even the Premier League.
The problem seems to be that Chelsea is having difficulty luring Haaland away from Borussia Dortmund, and other players have beenntified to fill the void. One of these is Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is seen as a viable alternative to Haaland, as he has Premier League experience, which Haaland does not.
Top Target
Chelsea's ongoing search for a striker has not prevented Tuchel from making West Ham and England international Declan Rice his top target for this season. Despite West Ham playing in the Europa League next season, playing for Chelsea in the Champions League and possibly challenging for the title will be too much of a carrot for Rice not to pursue.
Romano adds that Chelsea has redoubled their attempts to sign the 22-year-old following a stellar season in the Premier League last season, Rice is the top priority for Chelsea this summer. Although West Ham are demanding a huge £100 Million transfer fee for him, his youth and skillset could see Chelsea make a move for one of the Premier Leagues' elite young players.
