Tottenham were able to sign Emerson Royal from the Catalan side in the summer and hope they can shake hands on another deal in January.

The January transfer window is just around the corner, and transfer business would continue, despite the upsurge in COVID-19. The rumour mill is already agog with proposed player movements. Top of the bill is Real Madrid’s public pursuit of Kylian Mbappe. The 22-year-old striker was the subject of unsuccessful bids from the Spanish giants in the summer.

Clubs will look to bolster their squads ahead of the second half of the season. While many names have been spoken of, nothing has been concrete.

Tottenham are in the news for a winter transfer with eyes set on Barcelona defender Lenglet. Rumours suggest that Tottenham want to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona in January.

Tottenham eye January transfer move for Lenglet

There is ample evidence of what is cooking at Tottenham with the new manager Antonio Conte at the heart of it all. The Italian manager wants to build a title-challenging side with a base centred on defensive solidity.

Despite being booted out of the Europa Conference League, Tottenham have shown improvements in the last couple of weeks. The North London side has kept three clean sheets from their last five Premier League matches under Conte, yet the Italian gaffer remains unsatisfied. Conte wants to bring in defensive reinforcements in January.

According to recent reports, Tottenham is interested in bringing Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet to England in January. Spanish outlet Sport, via The Sun, reports Spurs have for some time held an interest in Lenglet. The report suggests that Tottenham seem ready to make a move for the 26-year-old defender.

Barca open to Lenglet departure

Barcelona are in a financial crisis and are left with the short end of the stick. The new manager Xavi needs funds to bolster his squad as he fashions out a formula to get his team firing like the days of yore.

With their current situation, it is unlikely that the club would stand in the way of a Lenglet deal, especially if Spurs come with a reasonable offer.

Barcelona have already been in business with Tottenham. In the summer, the North London club signed Emerson Royal from the Catalans, and they hope they can convince Lenglet to leave the Nou Camp.

The French defender is in his fourth season at Barca and has a La Liga and Copa del Rey title to his name for the four years he has been at the Catalan side. One thing Lenglet hasn’t been famed for is consistency. It probably explains why he has been confined to the bench this season.
