Call it luck or call it a good business eye, Borussia Dortmund have developed a reputation for spotting young talents, nurturing them and then selling them for a humongous price later on.
Not just young players, but any player at all in retrospect. To mention a certain few, the German-based side have made insane profits from the sale of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic, Ousmane Dembele and most recently Jadon Sancho, who moved to Manchester United.
Once again, another of Dortmund’s young stars is attracting interest from some of Europe’s best and one can only wonder if the club will sell once again.
That player in question is Jude Bellingham, with the latest reports emerging that the player is highly wanted by a host of English sides, who are ready to make a move for him next summer. It was only a year ago that Borussia Dortmund signed the youngster for £25m from Championship side Birmingham City. At the time, the price tag and fanfare surrounding the player seemed a bit over the top, but it would now appear it was yet another smart piece of business from the German outfit.
Three-way battle for Jude Bellingham
A report from The Sun claims that the trio of Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United are all interested in the teenager who has taken the football world by storm of late.
The report does add that the chances of either club pricing the player from Dortmund’s hands are rather slim. The player is also reportedly valued at £100m by the German side, and that could come as a major stumbling block for any interested party. It could also be a deliberate interest to ward off interest from any suitor.
However, the report concludes by saying all three mentioned clubs will still monitor the player’s situation and weigh their chances of signing the English midfielder.
When you consider how much of a task it was for Manchester United to sign Sancho from Dortmund, one would imagine that a move for Bellingham will come as way more difficult.
Besides, such a fee will mean the teenager will match the British record which was recently set by City, following their summer signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
Dortmund under no pressure to sell
In the case of Jude Bellingham, Dortmund have no reason to be forced to sell the young star. Forrs, the player still has four years left on his contract, which means only a mouth-watering fee will even make the German outfit listen in the first place. In addition to that, he’s still only 18 and has the potential to get even better, as well as his value.
The bigger issue for Borussia Dortmund, though, will be the case of Erling Haaland. The Norwegian forward is also a wanted man, and reports are even claiming he could leave the club by January. Only time will tell how that plays out.
