Chelsea are keen to tie Antonio Rudiger to a new contract.
The west London club have a few experienced defenders in the final six months of their contracts. Thomas Tuchel is worried over the situation as Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta will see their contracts expire on July 1.
The Blues have been sweating on their defenders, especially Rudiger and Christensen. They want them to renew their contracts with the club. It has been an arduous task, with Chelsea going as far as scouring Europe for replacements. Chelsea missed out on Niklas Sule, who joins Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Rudiger is keen to remain at Stamford Bridge, and it seems that a breakthrough has come as he tries to negotiate a contract with the club.
Chelsea ready to bend to Rudiger’s will
Antonio Rudiger has a contract till July 1, and Chelsea is worried they may lose the defender. The North London club is negotiating with the German international over a new deal. Chelsea is doing everything to convince the German to remain at Chelsea. Rudiger is attracting the attention of several clubs and would be a massive coup for any club that can get his signature.
Rudiger is one of the lowest earners at the club, and he has demanded a wage that befits his status at the club. Chelsea are looking to acquiesce to the defender’s demands as they do not want to lose too many defenders this summer.
Rudiger is currently on £100,000 per week and has rejected an offer worth £140,000 per week. The German international wants to commit to the club but wants around £200,000 before committing his future to Chelsea.
Rudiger is open to remaining at Chelsea
Rudiger knows this is his last chance for a big payday and is holding out for a worthy contract. The German is open to remaining at the club but wants Chelsea to match his wage demands.
According to Goal, there is progress in getting the defender to a new deal. Chelsea has offered wages close to the demands of Rudiger, but there is no agreement yet.
Rudiger has several admirers keen to acquire his services. Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United are all monitoring his situation.
Rudiger has established himself as one of Chelsea’s top players since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea and wants to remain with The Blues.
With the loss of a few defenders looming ever large over Chelsea, they are looking at other options in the market, with Barcelona’s 21-year-old defender Ronaldo Araujo being a ‘serious’ target. Kounde is another target with Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana.
Experienced defender Thiago Silva has already signed a one-year contract extension. Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah have also increased Tuchel’s options.
