The best players on the planet are usually associated with the biggest clubs in the world. Very few players have attracted interest from other clubs like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

While Mbappe remains in a tug of war with Paris Saint-Germain to allow him to join Real Madrid, Haaland has also attracted interest from the Spanish club, who want to bolster their attack for next season.

Real Madrid show serious interest in Haaland

With Benzema turning 34 and Eden Hazard misfiring the results provided previously on Premier League, Real Madrid are thinking ahead as they hope to bolster their attack for next season. During the summer, the Madrid based side made an audacious bid for Kylian Mbappe. It irked Paris Saint-Germain, who have cried foul and are at their wit’s end to convince the Frenchman to stay in the French capital.

It seems Los Blancos have been making moves to lure Erling Haaland to the Spanish capital. According to Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, Real Madrid are interested in the forward.

Speaking to German outlet BILD, Watzke said he is inundated with talk of Erling Haaland everywhere he goes. That seems to be the burning topic for Borussia Dortmund. Watzke revealed that only Real Madrid are really interested in Haaland.

A blistering record at Dortmund

In December 2019, Borussia Dortmund signed Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg after the Bundesliga side met his €20 million release clause. Undoubtedly, his value has risen, and he has done more than enough for Europe to scramble for his signature.

Haaland became the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the Bundesliga. He was also the youngest to achieve the feat at 21 years. In 2021, only one player stands ahead of him in goals scored across all competitions in the top-five leagues in Europe. Robert Lewandowski, with 58 goals, eclipses the 43 scored by Erling Haaland.

In the current calendar year, Haaland has scored 30 Bundesliga goals. It is a new club record for a Dortmund player. He surpassed the record of Lothar Emmerich (29 goals in 1966) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (29 goals in 2015).

Haaland has scored 13 Bundesliga goals this season from 11 appearances. In all competitions, the tally increases to 19. It is little wonder that all the top clubs want him on their side.

There is a reported €75 million buy-out clause in Haaland’s contract. The clause will come into effect in the summer. Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has already marketing his client across Europe.

While Watzke believes that Haaland will leave in the summer, with Real Madrid the most likely prospect, he believes Haaland should remain at Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund sit nine points behind league leaders Bayern Munich as they head into the mid-season break.
