PSV have confirmed Nistelrooy would replace Roger Schmidt, who has decided to step down at the end of the season.

Most football clubs are making or have concluded arrangements for next season. They’re either buying, selling players, or recruiting new managers. It would exclude Manchester United, who have spent nearly half the season and are no closer to signing a new manager, despite several links with Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino.

Louis van Gaal described the Red Devils as a commercial club, but one wonders what he thinks of Dutch club PSV Eindhoven?

The Eredivisie is close to an end. The Dutch elite division is close to the conclusion of its 2021/22 season with PSV in a hot battle with Ajax Amsterdam for the league title. Two points separate the two teams, but PSV are not doodling around. They’re already projecting ahead and looking ahead to next season.

The Dutch giants have concluded plans for a new manager next season. They have settled on former Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy as their next manager.

Ruud van Nistelrooy to take over at PSV

PSV could still win the Eredivisie this season. The Dutch giants would need a slip from Ajax and win their remaining seven games to become champions. Ajax sit two points ahead of their local rivals and look unlikely to relinquish the position.

On Wednesday, the club confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy would replace Roger Schmidt as head coach in the summer. The current PSV manager announced that he would leave the club at the end of the season.

Upon his revelation of stepping down from his position in the summer, PSV moved quickly for a replacement and showed their preference by appointing a legendary Dutchman in Van Nistelrooy.

Reluctance to take the job

Ruud van Nistelrooy was not disposed to taking up this kind of responsibility. Nistelrooy initially declined the offer. He was not sure he was ready for the job. However, PSV were able to convince him of his suitability for the role. Nistelrooy has signed a deal till 2025.

According to the club’s website, PSV technical manager John de Jong announced the club’s pleasure at having Nistelrooy as head coach.

In a statement made by De Jong, PSV is pleased that Ruud van Nistelrooy accepted the offer. He promised Nistelrooy has the confidence of the current management and Marcel Brands. De Jong believes that Nistelrooy has learned a lot at PSV in recent years.

He concluded that the former Real Madrid striker made an impression as a leader of several teams, and the time was ripe for him to lead the first team at PSV. De Jong believes this is the right path for the club, and it would yield plenty of dividends for the club.

Experienced head coach Fred Rutten will join Nistelrooy and act as his assistant.
