These days, football seems to be more about personality than deliverable. Many players and managers have been able to hold on to contracts despite being less than adequate. An example exists at Manchester United. After two-and-half years down, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still in a job. Perhaps for keeping a happy atmosphere at the club rather than winning trophies.
The standards seem to change with Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is trying to rebuild his image battered relentlessly in England by the media. He hasd life anew in Italy and has kicked it off in fine form losing just one game in all competitions. Mourinho is the most successful manager at Manchester United since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. Now at Roma, he is trying to build a squad strong enough to challenge on all fronts.
Rumours are rife about his intention to raid his former stomping ground for reinforcements at Roma.
Mourinho interested in Diogo Dalot
Mourinho suffered his first loss over the weekend as his Roma team lost 3-2 to Verona on Sunday. The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager has seen the need for reinforcements and may be interested in his former ward at Manchester United Diogo Dalot.
Calciomercato reports that the Giallorossi are interested in bringing two players. According to the report, Mourinho has asked the club to pimp his squad with a midfielder and a full-back.
Mourinho, however, remained coy on speculation of his interest in Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot. Mourinho was previously linked to Manchester United when the news surfaced of interest in Donny van de Beek. A January bid for Dalot has been touted, with the Van de Beek rumour refuted.
Dalot at United
Diogo Dalot arrived at Manchester United in 2018 when Jose Mourinho was boss. The young Portuguese defender has found game time hard to come by at United. His lack of game time saw him spend last season on-loan in Serie A with Italian giants AC Milan. He returned to United this season hoping to upstage Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 22-year-old is, however, yet to see a minute of Premier League action.
Dalot played his first game this season in United’s Champions League loss to Young Boys. He came on after Wan-Bissaka received a straight red card. He also featured in the club’s 1-0 loss to West Ham in the Carabao Cup. Due to Bissaka’s suspension, he will have a further chance to impress the Norwegian gaffer when they take on Villarreal in the Champions League next week.
In a recent press conference, Mourinho refused to be drawn into a discussion about Dalot. He neither gave updates on the team’s January transfer plans.
He told reporters that the transfer window was closed, and he would not get into any transfer talk.
