Kylian Mbappe will make a final decision on his future at PSG on Monday, claims reports. The Frenchman has been linked with an exit from the club since last summer and his future at the French capital remains rather unclear.
Real Madrid have set their sights on the talented winger since 2019 and remain determined to land the Frenchman as another ‘galactico’ signing alongside Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Asides Mbappe, PSG also have a big decision to make as they risk losing their prized asset for free next summer if they don’t sell him in the current window.
Mbappe’s uncertain future at PSG
While his quality is never in doubt, it seems rather evident Mbappe has something of an ego issue. The player seems like one who likes all of the spotlight and it could yet be happening again. The 22-year-old is out of contract with PSG next summer and is yet to put pen to paper over a new contract at the club.
It comes after he was recently booed by the PSG faithful in their Ligue 1 opener, with many fans reportedly discontent at the player holding the club to ransom regarding a new contract. At a time when the arrival of Lionel Messi is on the lips of many, Mbappe leaving the club could put a dampener on such excitement. For emphasis, Sergio Ramos even admitted to wanting to play alongside Mbappe before he left Real Madrid.
Still only 22, the young forward already has a staggering 133 goals for PSG and has virtually won all domestic titles in France. However, the Champions League has eluded him while the Ballon d’Or has equally done so on an individual basis.
As per Fichajes, Mbappe will notify the PSG board of his final decision on Monday.
PSG remain firm in their stance
PSG have made no secret of their intent to keep both Neymar and Mbappe at the club. After the Brazilian put pen to paper over a new contract, it was expected that his French counterpart would follow suit. However, that has not exactly played out as planned.
In fact, it is being rumoured that Real Madrid could test PSG’s resolve with a 120m bid this summer over the signature of Mbappe.
PSG president Al-Khelaifi has severally claimed that Mbappe is happy at the club and will likely stay put. However, it remains to be seen how the arrival of Messi has been received by the youngster.
If Mbappe does tell the PSG board he won’t renew his contract, they might be forced to sell him before the window ends. If not, they’ll have to keep him until next summer, count their losses and lose him for free. Tough luck indeed.
