Manchester United have several players on their books who are no longer interested in staying at Old Trafford. A seemingly toxic atmosphere exists at the club due to lack of playing time and a belief of favouritism for some underperforming players.
Some of the players who want out of the club are Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek. Paul Pogba has been on the sidelines for a while due to injury. The Frenchman had received big stick from fans, forcing him to stave off efforts to get him to renew his contract.
Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek have both found game time luxury at Old Trafford, with both players denied a move away from the club.
Meanwhile, Anthony Martial has been the subject of interest from several clubs. The wage demands of the forward, and the adamant position of United to receive a loan fee, remained a stumbling block to the player securing a move away from the club.
Sevilla showed a genuine interest in the French man, with the financials not tallying. It, however, seems that the Andalusian club has finally landed their man.
Sevilla secures Martial loan move
Anthony Martial was a subject of interest from Sevilla, who were looking to bolster their attack as they hunt for their first La Liga title since 1946. The Andalusian side are in second place on the La Liga log, four points behind Real Madrid.
The excessive demands of the Premier League club for a player that has hardly featured this season initially put Sevilla off. The desire of the French forward drew them back to the negotiating table.
A deal that sees Anthony Martial switch to Sevilla for the rest of the season has been completed. As per The Guardian, Manchester United have agreed on a loan deal with Sevilla for the French international for the rest of the season, with the Andalusian club paying a fee of about €6 million (£5m). The fee is less than half of the salary Martial receives at Manchester United. The deal was finalised with Sevilla paying no loan fee.
Anthony Martial is expected in Sevilla to complete the transfer. The French man wanted regular game time and made efforts to leave Old Trafford after agreeing to a wage reduction. Martial was a late substitute in United’s win over West ham on Saturday.
The 26-year-old midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs, including Tottenham and Newcastle, but preferred Sevilla.
Lingard is also on the way out
Meanwhile, Manchester United may lose another fringe player before the winter transfer market runs out. Newcastle United have stepped up efforts to land English international Jesse Lingard.
Lingard will become a free agent in the summer, with his contract running out in June. Manchester United want to recoup some money on the player if he does not agree to a new deal.
Lingard has received no assurances for his future at the club, and it might be in United’s interest to take his wages off their books by loaning him to Newcastle. Newcastle are willing to pay a loan fee of about €10million.
