Manchester United have gotten a host of their recent transfers wrong. The Red Devils have made horrendous decisions over the years and are paying dearly for it. The Old Trafford outfit are looking to correct their past mistakes by bringing players to lift the club back to their glory days.
Searching for players at this stage in the season is curious, with Rangnick deciding to leave decisions like these for the new manager in the summer. After the humiliating and embarrassing defeat at the hands of Manchester City over the weekend, it is clear that a lot of deadwood exists at United.
Manchester United have targeted RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku and want him at Old Trafford this summer.
United prepare to snare Nkunku
Many of those who supported Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his spell at United would look on with shame at the mess the Norwegian created. It will take a while to fix the mess with plenty of money required. A lot of the players in the squad are currently not United level. Players like Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan Bissaka, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay are not suited for the club.
Daily Star reports that Manchester United are keen to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku. The 24-year-old is a favourite of Ralf Rangnick. It was at the behest of Rangnick that the Frenchman was signed by Leipzig in 2019. The United interim manager is keen to be reunited with Nkunku. According to news making the rounds, the Red Devils are willing to offer Nkunku triple what he earns at the Bundesliga side. Although, they will have to ward off competition from Arsenal, who are also interested in the attacker.
Impressive Nkunku
The 24-year-old Nkunku has been impressive at RB Leipzig. The attacking midfielder has caught the eye of the man who brought him to Germany and could be on the move again. Nkunku came through the ranks at PSG and spent four years with the senior team before joining Leipzig in 2019. During his stint at PSG, he scored 11 goals and provided four assists from 78 appearances.
Nkunku has cemented his place at Leipzig, turning out brilliant performances consistently. The consistency of the Frenchman is something that is lacking at United and something they need. In the two-and-half seasons spent in the Bundesliga, Nkunku has produced performances and churned out results that eclipse his PSG output considerably. He has become a regular feature for Leipzig and scored 39 goals with 40 assists in 121 appearances.
Nkunku has been in fine form this season, with 14 Bundesliga goals to his name. It is this form that has alerted United to the midfielder.
Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba are all likely to leave Old Trafford this summer at the expiration of their contracts, and United could do with the services of a versatile attack-minded player like Nkunku.
The Frenchman earns a reported £30,000-a-week at Leipzig and United are willing to triple that amount to bring him to Old Trafford. Nkunku has a little over two years left on his RB Leipzig contract but has a reported buyout clause of £62 million in his contract.
