Manchester United is poised to take their squad depths to a whole different level if they manage to sign Jadon Sancho within the summer transfer window. The Red Devils took a temporary hit as the initial bid of £67 million + £8 million in add-ons was rejected by Borussia Dortmund. However, United is believed to have made a fresh offer worth £75 million.
Although the contract is yet to be signed, the morale in Old Trafford is high as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has found suitable replacements to bolster the squad ahead of the next season. If current reports are to be believed, adding Sancho to the lineup would give United nine attackers to choose from in the next season.
Rashford - Cavani - Sancho
The Devils have a formidable lineup, and adding nine attackers would help them play with different lines depending on the opposition. Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani make a formidable pair in the frontlines, and Sancho would be an excellent addition to the squad. Gunnar will rely on the trio as the England international can play from either flank.
Adding Sancho should result in more scoring opportunities for Cavani as he can easily score goals mid-flight. The only downside to this arrangement is Rashford suffers when he’s not in peak form, and Cavani struggles to play more than one match a week. This leaves Gunnar searching for an alternate lineup more often than he would like.
Martial - Greenwood - Diallo
Paul Pogba’s form towards the end of last year could also earn him a place in the forward lineup alongside Cavani and Sancho. Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, and Amad Diallo form another exciting attacking setup. Gunnar could likely use the trio in situations where United need to use pace and agility to break through heavy defences.
This approach could also prove beneficial due to the fluid attacking position as both Martial and Greenwood can play the central role. It would be the masterstroke during the group stage matches in next year’s Champions League as key players could be rested due to a packed calendar.
Mata - James - Elanga
Rashford could also be a part of the second-tier attack if Pogba retains his fine form. Gunnar could also use Juan Mata, Daniel James, and Anthony Elanga on the frontlines, although this lineup might not be as exciting as the other two. However, the trio would be the perfect option for early-round domestic matches as Mata’s creativity with James’ agility is the perfect combination for breaking a deadbeat game.
This would also give Sancho first-hand experience in playing with A-listers and fresh talent, as Hannibal Mejbri, Shola Shoretire, and Anthony Elanga are slated to make it to the first team at some point in the upcoming season. Martial and Amad could also make their way into the playing eleven by next season.
