Rennes 19-year-old highly-rated midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has one year left on his contract with the French club. He has decided not to sign a contract extension, and that has forced Rennes to sell him or risk losing him on a free transfer next year. Rennes has confirmed that the French international will be sold, but to whom?

Manchester United in pole position

In this regard, it has been reported by Italian journalist Rudy Galetti as well as Fabrizio Romano have both confirmed that United is one step away from completing the transfer. Galetti has said on his Twitter feed that an official bid has been initiated by Manchester United, and the finer details are now being finalised. United is willing to pay £25.7 Million for the French International.

Manchester United has been strongly linked with a move for the Rennes midfielder in recent weeks, but it was earlier reported that the French giants PSG were ready to usurp the English Premier League runners up with a better offer. However, Manchester United has jumped ahead in the queue and has slipped in the official bid whilst PSG was still monitoring the situation.

Rio wants Rice

Not everybody is as positive as the United moneymen. Legendary defender Rio Ferdinand is of the opinion that the young player is not what United needs for next season. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he added that United requires a quality readymade midfielder that will be able to hit the ground running. That player he advises would-be West Ham’s England International, Declan Rice. David Moyes might have a little something to say about that opinion, though.

Camavinga has a superior skillset

Camavinga made his professional debut for Rennes in 2019 and has established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in European football. His silky skills established him as a fans’ favourite as well as a mainstay in the lineup. His consistently good performances drew the attention of the top clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United. And therefore, many bookmakers have great odds for his transfers.

The midfielder, who made 39 appearances in all competitions for the French club, including one appearance in the Champions League, is seen by many clubs across Europe, including Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Manchester United’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has often stated he intends to, as Sir Alex Ferguson did in his tenure at United, nurture young players and create a team for the future. Camavinga has been touted as a possible replacement for United midfielder Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford.
