Manchester United have recently been in the news over their manager situation. It is a public secret that the Old Trafford outfit want a new manager in the summer, with several names coming up.
Manchester United have not shown professionalism in the past three years. The goal seems to be making more money over laurels. The Red Devils stuck with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, despite his glaring failings. Solskjaer took the club on a roller-coaster journey rolling the rich history of the club in the mud.
Solskjaer would be remembered for a trophyless campaign with Manchester United. He also left behind the most toxic atmosphere ever experienced at the club. The mess he left behind would need a total overhaul at the club as United look to get back to winning ways.
Manchester United remain in manager confusion
Ralf Rangnick was brought in to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The assignment for the German tactician was to steady the ship. He was also to clean out the Augean stables while laying the foundation for the arrival of a new manager.
With Rangnick expected to move upstairs in the summer, United have narrowed their manager search to two. The United board is split on who to appoint to take over from Rangnick. The choice is between Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag. The two managers are in consideration for the job, with the two managers having their pros and cons.
Thanks to Solskjaer, several players are playing way beyond the standard expected at Manchester United. The poor managerial record of the Norwegian earned him the boot, but Rangnick gave United ample time to decide the way forward. The season is coming to a close, and the United board has to decide soon. The Red Devils have to pick their next manager soon.
Between Poch and Ten Hag
Manchester United had the opportunity to sign Antonio Conte after sacking the ineffectual Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but they let the opportunity pass, and he ended up with rivals Tottenham.
According to Sky Sports, despite reports suggesting the race is between Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag, there are others in the race. The media outlet reports that two other coaches are also in the frame for the job. Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique, of the Spain national team, are also being considered.
It would be an arduous task to get Luis Enrique, who would be leading La Roja to the World Cup in Qatar later this year. It would not dissuade Manchester United from trying to get the Spaniard as their next manager. Luis Enrique is the most proven of the lot and should be the logical choice.
Sky Sports, however, reports that the club would be shocked if the eventual choice is neither Pochettino nor Ten Hag. The board is divided on which of the duo should be the number one target.
