Real Madrid and Mbappe have agreed to wait till the summer to conclude a potential deal.
Real Madrid have long admired Kylian Mbappe and watched the player’s development from afar, hoping that one day the French World Cup winner would dorn the white shirt of the club. PSG have fought long and hard to keep the youngster at the club, but it seems the battle is lost as the player has not signed a renewal and would soon be a free agent.
Real Madrid and Mbappe change strategy
On January 1, Kylian Mbappe would be free to negotiate a pre-contract with any club. Real Madrid put themselves in a solid position to sign the striker when they made an audacious bid in the summer. On Betpack, we closely followed all updates regarding the player’s future in the summer, and he will be among the most talked-about players in the coming months as well.
Real Madrid had tried to maintain a friendly relationship with PSG for as long as possible, but the desire to have Mbappe may have strained the friendship.
With the player set to be a free agent, both parties have decided to tow a different path to make the deal happen. According to reports, they have decided not to finalize agreements until the end of the season.
The change of strategy came after the UEFA Champions League draw pitched the two sides against each other in the last 16. Duncan Castles alluded to this when he spoke on the Transfer Window podcast. Castles claims that talks have been held by Real Madrid and Mbappe this month. During discussions, both parties agreed that the deal should be concluded later in 2022.
Indirect talks and a conclusion
In the summer, Real Madrid made a bold statement with an audacious bid that rose as high as 200 million euros for Mbappe.
PSG rebuffed the bid believing they could convince Mbappe to renew. Money doesn’t get everything as Mbappe has dug in and resisted every pressure put on him to remain in Paris.
While talking with the player is forbidden now, Castles said Real Madrid held indirect talks with Mbappe in December. Intermediaries have been used to pursue plans to get the desired end for both parties.
Mbappe is legally allowed to discuss with any club in January, and he could finalize a pre-contract if he so chooses. It appeared to be the plan until the Champions League draws came up. The draws forced both parties to shift any discussions till after the tie between Real Madrid and PSG.
Mbappe does not want any problems in his last six months at the club and has chosen to play everything straight till he leaves. Mbappe allowed PSG to recoup their investments in him, but the club felt slighted by Real Madrid’s approach and will now lose the player for free.
In a recent interview with CNN, Mbappe spoke of his future and insisted on finishing the season at PSG.
