Liverpool football club is set to offer their captain Jordan Henderson a new deal that could see him end his career at Anfield.
The Anfield landlords are in the process of rebuilding their midfield after the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain and will look to tie down their captain on a new deal.
Henderson, who is in the final two years of his current contract, joined the Merseyside club in the summer of 2011 and has now spent ten years with the club. The Liverpool hierarchy is, however, intent on seeing their captain stay past the remaining two years of the current deal. The club will offer the 31-year-old a new deal that will see him follow in the footsteps of club legend Jamie Carragher or, at the very least, Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also a big admirer of the English international’s character on and off the field and sees Hendeson as a vital plan of his midfield rebuilding process.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who was at Sunderland, was brought to the Merseyside club in 2011 by then manager Kenny Dalglish. He joined the club from Sunderland for a fee reported to be around £16million.
Henderson’s liverpool legendary status
Henderson endured a torrid start to his Liverpool career with both club and player failing to live up to expectations in the first year of their union.
A year after joining Liverpool, reports surfaced of Henderson joining Fulham, with Clint Dempsey, who is now retired, moving the other way. The English international rejected the move and decided he would fight for his shirt. The decision turned out right for both player and club, with Henderson succeeding where many Liverpool captains before him failed.
After the departure of club legend Steven Gerrard in 2016, Jordan Henderson was made the captain. Henderson led Liverpool to a Champions League win in 2019, a feat which he followed with the UEFA Supercup and FIFA World Club Cup that same year. He had already led Liverpool to the 2018 Champions League final, which they eventually lost to favourite of bookmakers, Real Madrid.
Henderson wrote his name into the history books at Anfield when he led the club to their first-ever Premier League win in 2020, A feat that will go down in history as the first of its kind in the Merseyside Club.
Liverpool will be hoping to extend the contracts of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Alisson. Betpack will let you know how that story develops.
