Daniel James is close to completing a deal that will see him join Leeds United. The switch will set Leeds back to the tune of around £30 million.
James has not quite found his feet at Manchester United. He was supposed to be a player of the future. The one that would nail down the wing position for many years to come. The young lad has, however, found the going tough at Old Trafford after failing to impress.
After the tenure of Jose Mourinho, the United dressing room was filled with dissatisfied players and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to go in a different action.
Solskjaer decided to go for youth, which marked the arrival of Daniel James. The player in question has not set Old Trafford alight and is to be farmed out permanently.
James had divided opinion during his stay and with many feeling he is not of United quality. He is now close to joining Leeds.
Battle with Leeds
Leeds have held a long time interest in James after making attempts to get him to play for them.
In 2019, James played for Swansea City and expressed his desire to leave the Welsh club for Leeds United. A deal was in place as both sides had agreed to a structured £10 million fee. James went on to undergo a medical at Elland Road, which he passed. He even had signing announcements and photoshoot sessions ahead of the completion of the deal.
The deal hit a snag that went on to derail the whole arrangement leaving James stranded. James failed to get his Leeds switch which allowed Manchester United to swoop in and sign the player in June 2019 for £15 million.
Leeds finally get their man
Ole had James in his plan for the new season and even featured the young lad in a couple of games, but a turn of events quickly saw James as surplus to requirements.
Nobody envisaged that Cristiano Ronaldo would return to Manchester United, but his availability was too good to be let go, and United snapped him up.
His astounding return to Old Trafford was the catalyst that showed James the exit.
As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, Leeds are now about to complete a deal that would have cost them £10 million in 2019 for £30 million in 2021.
An official announcement will come after James has undergone his medicals.
The long road from Swansea City to Leeds United is finally about to end with the Elland Road side about to get their man.
James,23, will now leave United with 74 appearances under his belt, nine goals and nine assists.
