Tottenham complete double deadline day swoop for Kulusevski and Bentancur

The January transfer windowd slowly with clubs not sure of action. The market didn’t hit top gear until the closing days of the transfer window. There was a rash of movement on the final day of the window.

Daniel Levy has been the butt of jokes among Spurs and rival fans alike. The North London club wanted to ship out Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele, two players that were the butt of criticisms by former manager Jose Mourinho.

The hypocritical fans and journalists have all gone quiet after Antonio Conte mouthed the same assessment of the players.

Tottenham were able to ship out the two players on the final day of the transfer window, with Ndombele returning to Lyon and Dele Alli to Everton.

Spurs make a double swoop on Juventus

Antonio Conte had been crying for reinforcement after it was clear that several Spurs players were at best average. Conte recently referred to players like Ndombele and Dele Alli as not at a high level. The statement proved Jose Mourinho right and shushed many journalists.

Daniel Levy finally made his new manager happy after the club concluded a deadline day double move for Juventus pair Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.

Juventus announced the moves for the duo on their official Twitter account in separate posts. The Bianconeri wished the players luck while thanking them for services rendered to the club. Spurs later confirmed the deal on their Twitter account.

Kulusevski arrives at Tottenham on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy for £30million, while Bentacur joins the North London club on a four-year contract in a deal worth £20.8million.

The first signings of the Conte era

The confirmation of the deal for the Juventus pair heralds the first signings of the Conte era. The transfer comes after Tottenham was unable to lure the duo of Adama Traore and Luis Diaz to the club.

The arrival of Bentacur and Kulusevski is a huge boost for a side that is sorely lacking in a winning mentality. The Italian gaffer had been looking to freshen the squad, and after weeding out the deadwood in Ndombele and Dele Alli, Conte can look forward to a brighter Spurs future.

Kulusevski joined the Bianconeri in 2020 but has not impressed Massimiliano Allegri. The Swedish star still made 74 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals in his first two campaigns.

Bentacur has had a successful spell at Juventus, where he won five trophies, including three Scudetti from 181 appearances.

Bentacur will replace the £63m record signing Tanguy Ndombele, who was highly ineffectual. The Uruguayan international who has graft with guile will be more to Conte’s liking.

Tottenham are playing for a top-four finish after crashing out of the Carabao Cup semi-finals against Chelsea.
