There is perhaps no team in the world that Cristiano Ronaldo would walk into, and the top player there doesn't take a back seat for the Portuguese.
When Ronaldo joined Juventus, Cuadrado voluntarily released his number seven shirt to him. Before he arrived at Old Trafford, there had been a lot of debate over the number allotted to him. Edinson Cavani, also a star, had the number seven shirt amid several permutations over Ronaldo's shirt number.
That problem was solved when Cavani voluntarily offered the shirt to Ronaldo. However, a new source of dissatisfaction has emerged from the team, and it involves Edinson Cavani.
Is Cavani unhappy at the club?
During the week, news filtered out of Old Trafford concerning Edinson Cavani. According to Dimitar Berbatov, the Uruguayan was unhappy and unsettled at Manchester United. He attributed this not just to the loss of his number seven shirt but also the limited role he has seen due to the arrival of the Portuguese superstar.
Cavani, who is currently injured, has not featured in any of the Red Devils games this season.
However, reports coming in have disputed the veracity of Berbatov's claim. A report released by ESPN Brazil suggests the Uruguayan does not feel sidelined in any way by the return of the Old Trafford legend. They claim this new information is from a source who has a front-row seat to the whole situation.
The report claims that Cavani is committed to the cause and intends to finish his current contract at the club. It also claims Cavani sees no issue playing second or third fiddle in the team as he has played alongside great players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kylian Mbappe and Luis Suarez in the past.
The arrival of Ronaldo has dropped Cavani down the pecking order as Mason Greenwood is ahead of him.
Cavani may leave at the end of the season
Except for injuries, the only other way Cavani will hope to get into theng lineup is if the manager decides to rotate his players. The return of the king came with casualties, and Cavani is the number one casualty.
Cavani signed a new deal in the summer to see him remain at Old Trafford for another year. The contract renewal came despite rumours that suggested he was on his way back to South America to finish his career. It seems that option is now plausible and would be activated at the end of the season.
