Andreas Christensen is happy at the turn of events and wants to remain at Chelsea.
One of Chelsea’s stars has confirmed that contract talks are ongoing with the club, and everything is going smoothly.
Since winning the UEFA Champions League, Chelsea have been in a buoyant mood. The team currently sit fourth on the English Premiership log after staying unbeaten after their first three games.
Thomas Tuchel is trying to knit a side capable of winning the league and dominating Europe for a long time. Achieving this goal has meant signing new players and keeping the value-adding ones.
Christensen on the verge of a new contract
Chelsea have reportedly offered a contract that extends the stay of one of its defenders at Stamford Bridge. Andreas Christensen claims that his future “looks good” with a recent confirmation that talks are ongoing with the club to extend his contract beyond its current expiry date.
The Dane’s current contract will expire in 2022. Reports from last month claim that the player and the club had agreed to new terms.
The 25-year-old is enthusiastic about his future, and according to an interview which The Daily Mail quoted, the defender says he is “very happy” at the club.
According to the defender who was a part of the side that defeated Manchester City in the 2020/21 Champions League final, he is happy at the club, and the club is the right place for him to be in England.
Christensen’s career path
The Danish defender spent eight years within the Brondby academy setup. He then joined the Chelsea youth team in 2012. He was elevated to the Chelsea senior team in 2013 and made his debut for the club in 2014.
He spent between 2015 and 2017 on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He has been a regular with the senior team since his return in the 2017/18 season.
What the player said
Speaking in a recent interview, Christensen said he couldn’t reveal much but hinted he is loving life at Chelsea.
He also spoke about their Champions League and the Super Cup conquest over Manchester City and Villarreal, stressing it was a reason to remain at Chelsea.
Since Thomas Tuchel arrived in January, Christensen has received opportunities which have led him to believe that the coach believes in him. He spoke about the role he has played since the arrival of the German.
According to him, things were difficult for him shortly before Lampard was fired, but he’s grateful that things are going the right way for him now.
After missing out on another defensive target in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, tying Christensen to a new deal could be very crucial for the Blues in hindsight.
