Chelsea are eyeing a Barcelona defender as thea of losing vital defenders in the summer looms large.

Things look rosy at Chelsea, with results going their way and players performing at their peak. Thomas Tuchel couldn’t have asked for better.

Chelsea sit top of the Premier League table and head down the first half of the season, intent on staying top of the table.

Thomas Tuchel has been brilliant and has managed his resources very well. This is something that would no doubt gladden the heart of Roman Abramovich. Besides the £97.5 million spent on Lukaku, it was a rather quiet summer for the Blues.

The smooth sailing of the Chelsea boat looks to be quiet before the storm as several of their players are on their last legs at the club. Chelsea do not want to be caught unawares and are already on the lookout for replacements as they face the possibility of losing some of their most experienced players.

Chelsea eye Sergino Dest

One of the players to pop up on the Chelsea radar is Barcelona defender Sergino Dest.

Spanish outlet ElNacional suggests that Chelsea do not want to be caught off-guard. They are already being proactive by foraying into the market early to replace departing players.

Tuchel sees the right flank as a side that needs fortifying. Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta are the two players currently in that position. Tuchel has, however, penned down Sergino Dest as worthy of donning a Chelsea shirt.

Dest is struggling to pin down a first-team shirt at the Nou Camp with Oscar Mingueza ahead of him in the pecking order for the right-back position. The American defender has seen limited game time this season and may be amenable to a move away.

Chelsea is ready to offer €25 million to Barcelona, who desperately need the cash, but they expect the Spanish club to hold out for €35 million.

Tino Livramento is another option for Chelsea. The Chelsea graduate has a buy-back clause in his Southampton contract that allows Chelsea to get him for £35 million.

Players heading for the exit

European champions Chelsea face a contractual minefield as some of their top experienced defenders may leave the club on free transfers. The players who were vital to Chelsea in their Champions League triumph are coming to the end of their contracts.

Azpilicueta is one of the players that will be affected by the arrival of Sergino Dest. The 32-year-old Spanish defender is unlikely to be offered a new contract.

Azpilicueta, however, feels trusted at the club, although his contract expires in June. He continues to train and play to his best. According to the defender, everything will take care of itself.
