Chelsea football academy is proving successful with several of their players turning out top performances at the club. Players like Mason Mount and Reece James were a mainstay at the club last season as they romped to a UEFA Champions League triumph.
When Roman Abramovich took over the reins at Chelsea, he wanted to build a world-class academy that would churn out players who would rule the world. In 2007, a passionate Abramovich inaugurated Chelsea football academy. The Cobham Training Centre can be said to have and continues to deliver on the promise by the owner.
One of the breakout players for Chelsea this season is Trevoh Chalobah. The defender has justified the faith reposed in him by his manager Thomas Tuchel. He has posted some exciting performances that have endeared him to Chelsea fans, and the reward for his efforts is a new contract.
Grateful and excited for a new deal
Trevoh Chalobah has signed a new long-term deal at Chelsea. The Cobham graduate broke into Chelsea first team this season. Chalobah managed it, even with experienced and established players like Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta.
The player is excited about his new deal and is grateful for the trust imposed on him by the club. In a recent interview cited by the club’s website, Chalobah described how he felt at penning a new contract at an illustrious club like Chelsea.
He said he’s been at the club since he was young, was a ball boy and watched great players pass through, and the magical Champions League nights have been outstanding. Going through all this and then making the team is beyond believable.
What he said
Chalobah is excited about signing a new deal at Chelsea. He believes it’s just the beginning of great things to come. He claims he is still developing and growing. Chalobah wants to leave his mark on the club and has no desire to rest on his oars.
He said the next thing for him is to try and get in as many games as possible. He does not intend to stop or relax. For him, the worst thing is to sign a new deal, then take his feet off the gas. Chalobah thinks he can go further, and that’s what he wants to do as he believes he is capable of it.
He praised Antonio Rudiger for taking him under his wings when he first arrived at the club, and he is excited to be playing alongside him.
Chalobah will continue to develop under the eagle eyes of Thomas Tuchel, and who knows, he might become the next John Terry.
Other players who have graduated from the academy and have been part of the Chelsea team are Andreas Christensen, Reece James, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Getting Chalobah to commit to a new deal will come as good news considering that the club faces the prospect of losing a number of senior players next summer.
