Bayern Munich find themselves in a spot of bother. The club remains in the dark over the future of one of their best players. Robert Lewandowski will be out of contract in the summer of 2023 and has so far refused an extension with the Bavarian club. The stance of the Polish striker has alerted several clubs to his availability, prompting reports that Bayern could be forced to sell the player this summer in order to avoid losing him for free.
Though the Bavarians will not stand in the way of Lewandowski if he chooses to leave, they will not let him go without a fight.
Bayern Munich usually get their hands on the best talent in Germany. Rumours suggest that the 2020 Champions League winners are keen to bring another star to the Allianz Arena. Many believe Erling Haaland is the heir to Lewandowski, and the young striker has been pulling excellent numbers, making him a target and a perfect replacement for Bayern Munich.
Oliver Kahn, one of the club legends and club CEO, has denied the rumours linking Haaland to Bayern Munich. He says the club is not capable of pursuing such a move.
Denial of interest
Questions have arisen about whether Bayern Munich can convince Robert Lewandoski to remain at the Allianz Arena. The Polish striker seems keen to try a new challenge, with Barcelona reportedly offering him a lucrative package. There are few strikers in the mould of Lewandowski, with one already plying his trade in Germany.
Many believe if Lewandowski leaves Bayern Munich, his replacement would be Erling Haaland. Despite the heavy links to the player, Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has debunked any interest in the Norwegian striker.
According to Kahn, Bayern Munich have no interest in signing the Borussia Dortmund striker in the summer. This is simply because they don’t have the financial might to do so. The Bundesliga giants are uninterested in entering a bidding war with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City. With those three clubs interested in landing the player, Kahn admitted that Bayern will have to look elsewhere for a striker if the need arises.
Kahn praises Haaland
Oliver Kahn has nothing but praise for Erling Haaland.
Speaking with Sport1, Kahn admitted Haaland is a fascinating player with an appeal to any club. He pointed at his performances at Dortmund as evidence of his excellence. Kahn did not completely deny interest in the Norwegian, but the project seems beyond Bayern, financially.
Despite his injuries this season, Haaland remains one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga but is strongly expected to leave the club this summer with serious interest coming from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City. Haaland has scored a staggering 82 goals in 85 games for Borussia Dortmund.
As per bookmakers, Manchester City are the favourites to sign Haaland but a number of factors could mean that deal remains pretty much uncertain.
With Robert Lewandowski looking to leave Bayern Munich, Kahn insists they want the striker to stay. He reiterated their efforts at keeping Lewandowski at the club.
