Barcelona still believe there is a chance that Dembele has a change of heart and renews at Camp Nou.

The arrival of Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has helped the club stabilise a bit. Under Xavi, Barcelona have gone on a run of games without defeat. The latest was the 4-0 El Clasico win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Buoyed by the commanding victory, Barcelona expect things to fall in place. The Catalans believe they can sign Erling Haaland and probably even bring Lionel Messi back home.

The state of the club’s finances remains unstable, but they believe anything can happen. The elephant in the room is Ousmane Dembele. The French player has a contract that expires in the summer and is yet to sign a new deal. Barcelona, however, still believe Dembele could still renew his contract with the club.

Barcelona hope Dembele would remain at Camp Nou

Barcelona have endured a running battle with Ousmane Dembele over renewing his contract with the club. The La Liga giants made no headway with the Frenchman rejecting the offers made to him. Despite his contract expiring in the summer, Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste believes Dembele could still sign a new contract.

The arrival of Xavi seems to have rejuvenated Dembele, as the French player has gone from strength to strength. Barcactor Mateu Alemany had asked the France international to leave the club. The call came in January after Dembele had repeatedly turned down offers of a new deal.

It is almost certain the former Borussia Dortmund player would leave the Catalan giants in the summer, but Yuste is hanging on to hope that Dembele would have a change of mind. According to the Barca vice president, he is not ruling out the possibility of the player signing a new contract.

No transfer for Dembele

Despite thective by Alemany that Dembele should leave the club in January, no offers arrived for the Frenchman. During the winter transfer window, Dembele had links to a couple of top European clubs, but the player remained in the Catalan capital till the expiration of the transfer window.

Xavi saw the importance of the Frenchman in his rebuilding process and integrated him back to the side. He has proven to be an integral part of the squad, as it seems his injury woes are behind him.

Speaking on Catalunya Radio as per AS, Yuste said negotiations did not yield any dividends with Dembele, but Xavi has informed the club that the Frenchman is an exceptional player. Yuste also praised Xavi’s work at the club. According to Yuste, Xavi is doing fundamental work, including psychologically.

Yuste claims Dembele feels more comfortable and believes that there is still a chance that another meeting could take place with his agent. While the issue of Dembele continues to hug the headlines, Barcelona are also working on new deals for Gavi and Ronald Araujo.
