The striker who has dropped even further down the pecking order at United is open to a La Liga move.

Barcelona are still not out of the woods as new manager Xavi works hard to fix the errors of the past years. It is not an easy task, as Xavi has discovered. Since his arrival at the Camp Nou, Xavi is yet to taste defeat, but the performances have not been vintage.

The ultimate test for Xavi comes up in next week’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich. So much is tied to that game and could redefine the season for the Catalan club. Barcelona stare at an ouster in the Champions League in the face. They face the uphill task of a Bayern Munich win to seal qualification to the next round of UEFA’s top club competition. Regardless, they could still qualify for the next round even if they lose.

While Xavi is thinking of the Bayern game, he is also looking to the future and is interested in bolstering his attacking options in January. Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has caught his eye, and he is seeking ways of landing the Uruguayan in the new year.

Barcelona approach Cavani

With Barcelona strikers not hitting the heights, the manager has decided to seek help by bringing in an experienced striker to strengthen his squad. Goals have been hard to come by for the Catalan side. It has prompted the manager to make advances at Manchester United Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.

Recent reports suggest that Edinson Cavani is the subject of Barcelona interest, with the club approaching his representatives. The Catalan club wants to feel him out on a potential move away from Old Trafford. ESPN reports from various sources suggest that a move to Camp Nou in the January transfer window has been mooted.

In an earlier report, ESPN suggests that Raheem Sterling, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are also being monitored by the Catalan giants. Due to the financial crunch at Barcelona, the club is targeting players who do not get regular game time at their clubs and are open to making a move.

Edinson Cavani is the latest player to be linked to Barcelona as they struggle to tie Ousmane Dembele to a new contract.

Cavani is down the pecking order at United

It’s been a torrid time for Edinson Cavani at Manchester United. The Uruguayan struggled last season to get into theng eleven ahead of Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo has pushed him down the pecking order.

Cavani has made just eight appearances this season and sits on a contract that expires in the summer.

Cavani, 34, is contracted at United until the end of 2021-22 but has made only eight appearances this season following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cavani plans a meeting with the incoming interim manager Ralf Rangnick on his plans. The 34-year-old striker will not turn his back on an opportunity to return to La Liga if his situation does not improve.
