AC Milan are doing well this season, with the club challenging for the Scudetto. The last time AC Milan won Serie A was in 2011. The Rossoneri sit top of the table above city rivals Inter Milan and the Partenopei. Milan have been in splendid form this season, with much of their solid displays down to players like Rafael Leao, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Franck Kessie, Mike Maignan and Olivier Giroud.
Rafael Leao has been the subject of attention of several clubs this season, following his solid displays. AC Milan have a battle on their hands to keep the Portuguese on their books and may need to cough up some good money to retain the services of the 22-year-old.
Arsenal target Rafael Leao
Following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Barcelona in January and the likely exit of Alexandre Lacazette in the summer, Arsenal need to find replacements in the summer transfer window. The Gunners failed in their bid to land Dusan Vlahovic, who ended up signing for Juventus. Despite the failure to land the Serbian, Arsenal are keen on returning to Serie A for another striker, and the Gunners have their eyes on AC Milan forward Rafael Leao.
The 22-year-old Portuguese international has a contract with AC Milan that runs till 2024, with Milan interested in tying him down to a long-term contract. Rafael Leao has improved tremendously this season. The Rossoneri no longer has the financial pull to challenge for top players and would find it an arduous task keeping the Portuguese forward.
Several Premier League clubs have their eyes on Leao and want to challenge the Rossoneri for the player.
Italian publication La Repubblica reports that Arsenal is weighing up a summer swoop for Rafael Leao. The Gunners missed out on Vlahovic in January. Arsenal lost out in a bidding war to Juventus, who landed the player for €75 million.
Leao having a fantastic season
Stefano Pioli has seen his Milan side rise to the top of the table, thanks to solid performances from Rafael Leao. The Portuguese international is enjoying a fantastic season, with his goals helping the Rossoneri to the top of Serie A.
After 25 games, AC Milan has 55 points, one point ahead of Inter Milan, who have a game in hand. Leao has contributed seven goals and four assists in 21 outings in Serie A. He has also made 27 appearances across all competitions, with ten goals and five assists.
Arsenal are in a race to mitigate against the uncertainty of the futures of Lacazette and Nketiah.
Leao can play anywhere across the front line but excels from the left. The Portuguese has explosive pace and eye-catching dribbling skills. With his Pace, strength, work rate and dribbling skills, the ex-Lille forward would be a valuable addition to Arsenal.
If Arsenal makes it to the Champions League, they could convince Leao to join the Premier League side.
