Arsenal has the perfect replacement for Alexandre Lacazette if the French forward leaves this summer. Mikel Arteta has had a frustrating time building a balanced squad with limited funds so far but could make a breakthrough with Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.
According to sources, Lacazette demanded a huge upheaval back in May that forced Arsenal to provide hefty financial support. If Odsonne replaces Lacazette, Arteta will have made his first change to the dressing room this year.
Arteta is lucky to be able to handpick players for Arsenal after the club’s disastrous performance last year. The squad finished eighth in the Premier League and Arteta’s euphoria from the FA Cup win of the previous year was quickly reduced following a disappointing fourth-round loss against Southampton.
The Road to Redemption
The 39-year-old has a clear vision for the club and along with sportingctor Edu, is set to introduce several changes. Their actions so far have corroborated previous reports that the pair is keen on replacing older players with younger talent. Star defender David Luiz will leave at the end of this month after his contract expires, while right-back Hector Bellerin could move to Spain or Italy.
Arsenal is also open to offers for Granit Xhaka, Berndt Leno, Lacazette, and William. But replacing experienced players with newcomers is a risky decision. Since there is no guarantee that 21-year-old Albert Sambi Lokonga can cope with the top-level performances of Xhaka. But in Edouard’s case, it’s a risk worth taking.
